Press Release

The Chemical Industries Association will again be taking centre stage at each of this year’s party political gatherings. We will be hosting debates at the Liberal Democrat, Labour and Conservative party conferences.  Each of the fringe meetings is called Is a Green Economy Costing Jobs in the UK?

The Chemical Industries Association represents 200 chemical and pharmaceutical companies in the UK, the sector currently contributes £30m a day to the balance of payments.  The transition to a low carbon economy is something the chemical sector has been delivering over the last 10 years, through a 35% increase in efficiency and through our carbon saving products.  We are also an industry that relies on energy security and price stability to enable future capital investment and innovation to remain in the UK.  It is essential that climate change and energy policies don’t punish energy efficient intensive sectors and we will use our fringe meeting to discuss how this can be achieved.
