Press Release

The Chemical Industries Association (CIA) is pleased to see that the chemical and pharmaceutical industries have been highlighted as essential contributors to driving sustainable economic growth in the UK.

The CBI report “Playing our Strongest Hand – Maximising the UK’s industrial Opportunities” outlines key sector action plans on innovation, value chains, skills, energy and climate change, procurement and regulation.

Taking account of the report recommendations,  the CIA has already begun work with partners including the Chemistry Innovation Knowledge Transfer Network to deliver a long term strategy for sustainable growth which will aim to present a strategic vision and related actions to government by 31 March 2013.

Steve Elliott, CIA Chief Executive and Member of the CBI President’s Committee said “This report reflects some excellent collaboration between the chemical and pharmaceutical industry and CBI as business strives to deliver tangible measures to kick-start UK economic growth.  It is great to see the hard work of chemical and pharmaceutical businesses being recognised and I am looking forward to continuing to work with the CBI and others to take this agenda forward”.
